Minister for Climate Protection Leonore Gewessler takes over the patronage

This year, the GREEN BRANDS organisation is organising the Austrian Environmental Journalism Award for the second time. The award honours outstanding media contributions on environmental and nature conservation topics and is rewarded with a total of 4,000 euros.

Austrian Minister for Climate Protection Leonore Gewessler has assumed patronage of the Austrian Environmental Journalism Award 2020. This underlines the relevance of the prize and the topics it honours: Environmental protection, climate protection and nature conservation concern each and every one of us and should be put in the spotlight even more than before.

The prize was created in 2017 by the environmental initiative MUTTER ERDE. MUTTER ERDE is an association of the ORF and the leading environmental and nature conservation organisations in Austria: the Alpenverein, BirdLife, GLOBAL 2000, Greenpeace, Naturfreunde, Naturschutzbund, VCÖ and WWF.

Until 31 August 2020, journalists can submit their contributions in four categories: Print, Radio, TV and Internet. A very competent Jury will then decide on the winners. Prof. Dr. Helga Kromb-Kolb is one of the jury members, the renowned Austrian climate researcher was honoured as “GREEN BRANDS Austria Personality” in 2018.

“We are very pleased to be able to present the Austrian Environmental Journalism Award again this year”, emphasises GREEN-BRANDS initiator and Managing Director Norbert Lux. “It is a special honour that the Austrian Minister for Climate Protection supports our cause as patron. She will also be present at the award ceremony in Vienna on 3 November 2020”.
